Merging office with manufacturing, creating a unique, hands-on experience for customers and a modern industrial work environment that suits all different departmental needs

As a leading supplier of integrated packaging solutions and machinery for the food, consumer and industrial goods, and medical and pharmaceutical industries, MULTIVAC was looking to upgrade and modernize its Southeast Customer Support Center in Charlotte into a place where business operations and the manufacturing experience collide. The merriment of workplace with manufacturing space turned their old space into a new marvel of a flex-use environment that meets MULTIVAC’s business needs and well showcases their equipment and product capabilities to customers.

This commercial-industrial space is outfitted with glass-front private offices and a large, glass-front conference room directly adjacent to a high-tech Innovation Center, product display area, and equipment training lab.
The newly renovated Southeast Customer Support Center merges office with manufacturing, creating a unique, hands-on experience for customers and a modern industrial work environment for employees.
MULTIVAC added an Innovation Center and training lab equipped with its proprietary manufacturing machinery to the existing space. This now allows customers to observe production processes and test equipment on-site.
The building’s electrical system was upgraded and converted to accommodate the numerous pieces of heavy equipment and machinery being installed in the space.
Since the space required extensive electrical upgrades, thousands of feet of electrical conduit were cleanly placed in the ceiling to support the equipment without detracting from the design aesthetic.

A space that does it all – for the employee and the customer

MULTIVAC wanted to house all operations from office and customer support to product testing and development under one roof. This required a creative design approach to help accommodate elements like conference rooms and break room facilities without detracting from the main manufacturing equipment showroom and training lab. The client envisioned an open work environment with clean lines and a modern design, so glass office fronts were utilized throughout the space to preserve the design intent and provide visibility to equipment operations, helping maintain focus on manufacturing products and enhance the customer experience.

Testing a hands-on experience for customers

MULTIVAC saw its renovation as an opportunity to provide a true hands-on experience for customers to learn about its machines, processes, and capabilities. The company added an equipment display area that is openly visible to visitors, allowing them to see the different pieces of machinery in action. This is coupled with an in-house Innovation Center that encourages customers to observe and test the products privately, as well as a large product display area and in-house training lab to accommodate on-site product creation and testing.

Side Story

The Barringer Way

A critical mission to meet electrical needs for owner-furnished equipment

Ensuring the building electrical systems could adequately support the project’s massive power requirements was crucial to its success. A thorough site investigation of the existing electrical and mechanical systems was conducted to identify which components required replacement or upgrades to meet the specific requirements of the heavy equipment and machinery furnished by the owner and being installed in the space. This due diligence effort assured MULTIVAC that the installation of their valuable equipment would occur flawlessly without harm or failure. (And you better believe it sure did!)
