Take a peek at the custom-tailored technology plan we implemented at Charlotte Pipe & Foundry, the nation’s largest cast iron pipe and fittings foundry.

OpenSpace, a 360° video and photo mapping platform that automatically ties to the project plans, was used for collaboration in the field. The client and project team members could access weekly construction progress anywhere, anytime, without ever visiting the jobsite. Detailed images and notes were added to help streamline coordination and solve issues early, saving time and money.

Through an integrated building information modeling (BIM) process, a comprehensive master model including various models from different disciplines was used to detect clashes during the design phase. Clash detection helped our team eliminate last-minute hurdles due to inconsistencies between different models and multi-level design changes, which can result in budget issues. 

In conjunction with Trimble technologies, we employed an in-house surveying team to check over 5,000 anchor bolts, adding a third level of checks and balances, which ensured accuracy down to 1/16″. Our extensive quality control plan saved significant time and money by mitigating the potential for costly rework. 

Accurate planning is no small task for a 570,000-square-foot site (equivalent to 340 football fields) with six miles of underground utilities. With DroneDeploy© technology, our team created an interactive site view, including maps, photos, panoramas, and videos to document construction progress and allow us to adjust the logistics plan to meet current site conditions.
