Superintendent

The ideal candidate will be comfortable overseeing the entire operation of the construction site. They should be able to determine and address any risk areas in order to maintain the safety of workers. This candidate should be experienced in communicating project milestones with clients and other parties, and be able to follow a timeline for completion.

Reports to:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

A Superintendent leads the daily jobsite activities and coordinates subcontractor work in accordance with design, schedule and safety program. The Superintendent also plays a critical role in communicating with the client, project management, and the public/building occupants.

  • Oversee daily operation of construction projects
  • Ensure safety, compliance and quality regulations are followed
  • Communicate project progress with clients and project managers
  • Manage subcontractors and construction site organization

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with construction standards.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Superintendent for a Commercial General Contractor.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret building plans, schedules and product specification sheets, or governmental regulations (permitting, EPA, Zoning, Fire Marshal).
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and measure.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, visually observe and move around the construction site.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, work from heights and lift and/or move (up to 50 lbs alone or heavier weights with a partner(s)).
  • Must be able to move about freely in an office and construction environment, use stairs, climb ladders, operate a forklift, etc.
  • Employee may be required to clean construction sites, demolish spaces and use tools (ex: chipping hammer, power tools, etc.).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to work on a computer/ipad/phone and to read plans and documents. Distance vision is required to operate machinery and vehicles and observe workers at a construction site.

Work Environment:

  • The employee will spend the majority of their time on a construction site with fluctuating temperatures, changes in elevation, indoor and outdoor, and occasional dusty/dirty conditions and loud noises over 85 decibels.
  • The employee will often have only a port-a-john available for a restroom.
  • This position requires early morning, weekend, and night shift work as needed.
