Crafting a sleek and modern law firm space to fulfill a repeat client’s evolving business needs

K&L Gates, a global law firm with more than forty-five offices on five continents, relocated their Raleigh office from the North Hills area to the heart of downtown Raleigh to better fit their business needs. Located on the twelfth floor of the LEED Gold Certified 301 Hillsborough building at Raleigh Crossing, K&L Gates’ new 26,300 square foot first-generation office space is a sleek, modern environment offering both private and open, collaborative areas set against the expansive backdrop of the growing city skyline.

Barringer Construction has also worked with K&L Gates on their Charlotte and Charleston offices.
The company’s corporate design standards include custom carpets, wallcoverings, graphics throughout, and high acoustical specifications for private spaces.

Achieving design standards while adhering to an aggressive schedule

Due to the nature of their business, for K&L Gates a welcoming, high-end corporate setting that maintains client privacy was a must. Their company design standards include custom carpet, wall coverings, and graphics throughout, as well as high acoustical specifications for private spaces, all of which required close coordination with the design team to adhere to the aggressive schedule. To ensure the demountable glass wall system was installed to meet their sound-proofing requirements, the team had to meticulously modify each glass wall to adequately connect and align with the building’s curved exterior envelope. This pre-planning and ingenuity allowed the project team to avoid costly fees for the client and shorten the construction schedule by three weeks to coincide with the end of lease date at their existing space.

The Barringer Way

Delivering Excellence for a Repeat Client

Our historical success of working with K&L Gates to upfit offices in Charlotte, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina allowed the team to hit the ground running from day one on their new Raleigh office. Our in-depth understanding of the client’s unique needs and office design standards paired with great attention to detail also allowed us to quickly accommodate K&L Gates’ request to accelerate the schedule.

Utilizing technology to ensure clear and effective communication

With the architect and owner’s representative located out of town, Barringer served as the team’s local eyes and ears, using technology to ensure effective communication. Throughout the project, OpenSpace was routinely utilized to provide visual updates and consistent communication to all involved parties. OpenSpace access was also provided to the K&L Gates’ local partners to track progress and get an early look at their new space.
