Providing the first steps of a holistic learning experience by embracing the uniqueness of students

Corvian Community School was founded in 2010 on a vision to fill a gap in the educational system and better reach children by providing an innovative educational experience. The public charter school broke ground on its fourth and final project: a new, out-of-ground elementary school designed to provide students in grades K-4 with the school’s signature hands-on learning experiences and growth opportunities.

Barringer has built every project on Corvian’s 10-acre Campus
All work was completed while the adjacent middle and high schools remained occupied, requiring extensive preplanning and safety protocols to ensure minimal disruptions to daily activities like carpool and sporting events.

A premium learning facility

Spanning 46,000 square feet across two stories, Corvian Elementary includes 24 state-of-the-art classrooms, an event/theatrical space, modern student and staff dining areas, a fully equipped media center and a pre-engineered gymnasium. The space was thoughtfully designed to maximize space for student learning while balancing out additional needs, including community-oriented spaces such as the multipurpose area and gymnasium, and administrative/faculty-focused areas. The new building includes several unique and mentally stimulating elements for children, including a dedicated visual arts classroom and a two-story atrium linked by a custom-built tree slide inspired by the school’s logo.

The power of a design-build partnership

Corvian Elementary was constructed as part of a prestigious design-build partnership which encouraged a highly collaborative, fully integrated process that drove innovation and creative problem solving. This unique partnership between the client, general contractor, architect/design team and other project partners allowed for a fully curated construction process that allowed the client to achieve their vision while remaining in-budget and on-schedule, completing the school in time for the 2024-2025 school year.
