A new medical home for patients seeking comprehensive, affordable, quality healthcare in the Charlotte community

The C.W. Williams Community Health Center has been serving the Charlotte community since 1981 by providing access to high-quality, comprehensive healthcare regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. Armed with a mission to better serve its patients, the organization built a new, state-of-the-art medical facility to replace its aging main campus.

The new medical center includes two floors at 8,220 square feet each and a 69-space parking lot.
CWWCHC’s existing 83-year-old flagship medical building on their main campus in West Charlotte was demolished to make way for the state-of-the-art medical building, demonstrating their long-term commitment to the community.
The medical facility features an open floor concept with a pod system that supports a ‘Patient-Centered Medical Home’ model of care. It encompasses medical, dental, behavioral health, women’s health, pediatric, and traditional Chinese Medicine clinics.

A modern medical facility for the modern patient

The goal was simple: create a modern, accessible facility that embodies the organization’s welcoming service mantra. The new two-story medical center features an open floor plan with a pod system supporting a ‘Patient-Centered Medical Home’ model, including medical, dental, behavioral health, women’s health, pediatric, and traditional Chinese Medicine clinics. Additionally, a drive-through pharmacy, food pantry, demonstration kitchen, and outdoor seating plaza further support the community.

State-of-the-art medical features

The new health center’s aesthetic elements are just a portion of what it brings to the Charlotte community. This center will be able to provide the same high-quality medical offerings as any other state-of-the-art facility, with the addition of innovative technology like negative pressure rooms for adults and children, a robust medical laboratory, and fully equipped consultation rooms.

Navigating a challenging site

This new building was constructed in place of the original medical center, requiring vast preplanning to ensure the safe demolition of the structure. Our team developed a meticulous site safety plan to address issues, including a small site footprint beside a busy intersection, worker parking options, and coordination of heavy equipment and machinery.

Early coordination & Sequencing

This project team coordinated various exterior façade elements, including multiple metal panel systems, masonry, and glass storefronts, which had to be erected in a specific, timely order to ensure swift progress. Early coordination was also paramount for the medical and dental equipment, which was owner-furnished. Open lines of communication between construction partners, our client, and outside vendors ensured the project remained on schedule.
