Relocating a long-time architectural partner to their newly transformed and inspired workplace in Uptown Charlotte

Gensler, a global architecture, design, and planning firm and local industry partner of Barringer, was looking to complete a major transformation of its new Uptown Charlotte office space that would allow the company’s creative and dynamic culture to shine. What transpired is an energetic and flexible work environment that serves as a living laboratory where new ideas can be explored, relationships can be built, and products and materials can be tested.

Efforts During Construction
Throughout the lifetime of our partnership with Gensler, we have worked on over 160 projects together ranging from corporate interiors and hospitality to industrial and mission critical projects.
This modern office environment includes a work café, Design Lab, studios, multiple phone rooms and collaboration spaces, and a mix of open seating and private offices.
Our team was engaged early in a true design-build partnership to advise on design and constructability decisions that saved time and money without sacrificing aesthetics.
Construction occurred in a high-traffic, occupied high-rise at the intersection of Trade and Tryon Streets in Uptown Charlotte.
This project required detailed planning, coordination, and safety protocols to ensure minimal disruption to the neighboring businesses. Our team completed any disruptive or loud work on nights and weekends to remain as discreet as possible.

Creativity at play

Spanning nearly 15,000 square feet, this modern office environment boasts an open concept complete with a work café, Design Lab, studios, multiple phone rooms and collaboration spaces, and a mix of open seating and private offices. Dubbed an ‘Experience Zone,’ the space is reminiscent of a playground, reinforcing the idea of creativity at play while fostering creativity and development and supporting individual, focus, and team collaboration activities.

Planning for the future

This project’s forward-thinking approach to planning helped ensure a design built for longevity and a space that can easily adapt to new ways of working. A dynamic seating plan, flexible workspaces and moveable glass partitions allow the office to restructure itself freely to meet the company’s current needs.

The magic of collaboration and early engagement

Our longstanding partnership with Gensler allowed for a level of unparalleled collaboration. Our team was engaged early as part of a true design-build partnership to act as an advisor on design and constructability decisions that saved time and money without sacrificing aesthetics. Additionally, all project partners participated in value engineering exercises early on to deliver creative, cost-saving design solutions, while hands-on collaboration during site walks and onsite meetings allowed key decisions to be made and immediately implemented, keeping the project on schedule.
