The evolution of a legacy for one of the most renowned private clubs in the Carolinas

A premiere and historic Charlotte establishment, Myers Park Country Club is one of the most renowned private clubs in the Carolinas, serving as an integral part of Charlotte society since the early 1920s. A family-oriented establishment committed to providing an enhanced member experience for all ages, the club underwent a 46,223 square foot expansion and renovation to increase dining options, upgrade entertainment and event spaces, and make the existing building structure more energy efficient.

The total project included a 15,000-square-foot expansion to the two-story clubhouse and over 30,000 square feet of interior and exterior renovations and improvements.
The Myers Park Country Club Renovation and Expansion project won 2nd Place for Best Clubhouse Renovation by Golf, Inc. Magazine in 2023.
A thoughtfully planned phased construction approach allowed members to maintain full access to club amenities throughout the project and ensured the space was completed on schedule.
Starting from a vision in 1915 to build a private club and nine-hole golf course on newly inherited land, what is now known as Myers Park Country Club has endured two World Wars, a Great Depression, numerous renovations, and a hurricane that claimed 900 trees on the property. Its legacy deep in history continues to evolve as it looks forward to an exciting tomorrow.
The 1920s structure underwent improvements to increase energy efficiency, including replacing the incandescent lighting with LED fixtures, installing new insulated windows on the entire rear façade, and installing powered sunshades on the verandas to reduce building heat gain.

A club made to entertain

Myers Park’s primary focus of this project was to maximize space and increase the amenities available to its members. The steel-frame expansion of the two-story central portion of the building made room for a new tavern and multiple dining rooms, as well as an elevated patio terrace and outdoor covered seating. The club also underwent a complete interior renovation, including new commercial-grade kitchens with new equipment, indoor dining areas, locker rooms, and renovated ballrooms and bar areas. The club grounds were upgraded with new walking and cart paths, a new golf course entrance, and an expansive event lawn with fire pits and entertainment areas. Six different covered patios and terraces were added, complete with motorized shades, recessed electric heaters, and fireplaces, making the spaces suitable for use year-round.

The Barringer Way

MINIMIZING DISRUPTIONS TO CLUB OPERATIONS

The team took a phased approach and made extensive efforts to minimize schedule delays through early procurement of long-lead-time items such as steel, exterior doors, food service equipment, and hardware. This proactive approach not only allowed members to maintain full access to club amenities throughout the project but also ensured the space was completed on schedule.

Meeting modern needs while preserving history

In an ode to its multigenerational membership, Myers Park Country Club prioritized maintaining historical and design integrity. The renovated and expanded areas were designed with sensitivity to the existing architecture, blending new and renovated areas with original architecture to ensure the expanded clubhouse appears as cohesive and timeless as the original. Extreme care was taken to preserve many original design elements within the club, including original crown molding, trim and woodwork, crystal chandeliers, and interior fireplaces.

“We are in the final weeks of completing what will be a $28M project with Barringer and we have had a great experience. They have been a true partner all the way through the process including, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Knowing I am not the easiest of clients and having been in the role of construction manager, I unequivocally endorse them for any project you might have.”
