TIAA Charlotte Campus Wins Top Space Build-Out Project – CBJ Heavy Hitters

After more than two decades in Charlotte, TIAA wanted to modernize its campus and use the site as a model for the Fortune 100 financial services company. The renovation spanned six buildings and encompassed nearly 1 million square feet. Refurbishing the office space would allow TIAA to introduce a new workplace strategy that aims to break down barriers between business units and facilitate connection.

November 2022

The new space supports TIAA’s Work for My Day framework for hybrid work schedules and aims to boost individual and group effectiveness. Private and collaborative workspaces support either kind of work so that employees are energized and engaged. Even outdoor areas are equipped with technology to support work.

TIAA’s location in University City and away from the amenities of a central business district required the company to create its own attractions. Those amenities include a new food hall that’s a fun, flexible space with a variety of cuisines and a grab-and-go snack bar. A fitness center hosts space for individual workouts and specialized classes and includes unique features like a private water massage chair, live moss wall and custom reception desk made with timber from TIAA’s own timber land. An on-site pharmacy brings individualized medical care to campus.
